This year’s science, technology, engineering and math Educator of the Year recipient in the Tech Council of Maryland’s annual awards celebration is Urbana High School’s, Dr. Suzanne Dashiell Elder.

Dr. Dashiell Elder was given this prestigious statewide award for her “passionate commitment, innovation and expertise in Urbana High School’s AP and IB Biology and Chemistry programs,” said Principal Kathy Campagnoli.

After earning her Bachelor of Science degree from Rutgers University and her Masters of Science doctorate degrees from the University of Maryland School of Medicine, Dr. Dashiell Elder worked at the National Institute of Neurological Diseases and Disorders as a research scientist.

There is a strong need for students throughout the U.S., to compete with other countries in science, technology, engineering and math, and through her experience, Dr. Dashiell Elder has greatly benefitted the quality of education she delivers in her classroom for students seeking a career in science or technology.

Along with many other accomplishments, Dr. Dashiell Elder enrolled Urbana High School in the NIH Donation Program, which gave the school over $50,000 worth of computers and lab equipment, which Urbana High used to create a new state-of-the-art STEM lab.
