Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley visited Takoma Park's National Night Out!

National Night Out is celebrated by police departments across the nation as a unique crime/drug prevention event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW).

On Tuesday, August 2nd, Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley joined the Takoma Park Police Department for their annual National Night Out at the Piney Branch Elementary School, 7510 Maple Avenue.

The Takoma Park Police Department’s goal is to heighten safety and crime prevention awareness; to support locally based businesses, groups, and organizations; and to strengthen relationships among community members and between the community and local police department all while having fun!

“One of the biggest priorities we have is reducing crime and making our neighborhoods safer,” said Governor Martin O’Malley.

The event gave residents the opportunity to meet Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley, the police department’s command staff, officers, and civilian employees. Residents also saw the cars, bikes, and various equipment the police officers use while enjoying free food and entertainment.

“National Night Out is a way for us to give back to the community for all they do for us during the year,“ said Takoma Park Police Chief Ronald Ricucci.
