Students from St. Raphael School and St. Raphael Nursery School in Rockville are planning another hero’s welcome, this time for Lt. Cmdr. Jaime Salazar.  The brave soldier and father is scheduled to return from Afghanistan September 9 or 10, will be greeted by students from both St. Raphael School and St. Raphael Nursery School on Monday, September 12—one day after the ten year anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. With the school grounds donned with American flags and yellow ribbons, the students will line Dunster Road outside the school to greet Salazar as he picks up his four year old daughter, Julia, from her preschool class.

St. Raphael School and St. Raphael Nursery School organized a similar school-wide welcome in March for another military parent, Dr. David Schroder, a Navy commander. Schroder’s wife, Kathryn, is returning the favor by coordinating the installation of the yellow ribbons for Salazar’s homecoming.

St. Raphael School opened in 2006 and is a Catholic school for kindergarten through the sixth grade, expanding to the eighth grade in 2013. St. Raphael Nursery School was established in 1969.
