The 2012 All-County High School Music Festival is almost here, featuring the top 178 Frederick County public high school music students.  Eighty-five All-County Chorus, 60 All-County Band and 33 All-County Orchestra students were selected from a rigorous audition process last November to perform for the public this Saturday, February 4, 7 p.m., at Governor Thomas Johnson High School.  The snow date is Monday, February 6, same time and place.

Three guest conductors, who have selected repertoire to showcase student talents, will lead each group in the concert:  Jeffrey Davidson, Brian Drake and James Tung. Montgomery County’s Walt Whitman High School Music Department chairman Jeffrey Davidson will lead the chorus.  Carroll County’s Westminster High School Band Director Brian Drake will conduct the band.  Frederick Symphony Orchestra and Westminster Symphony Orchestra of Maryland Concertmaster James Tung will conduct the orchestra. Chorus selections will include America, the Beautiful; Exultate Justi in Domino, That Lonesome Road, Umi Sono Ai, It Takes a Village and Blue Skies.  The band will perform Joy from The Awakening, Clash, Children’s March, Stark Trek and With Skies Parted. Orchestra selections will include theOverture to Russlan and Ludmilla, Tchaikovsky’s Andante from Symphony No. 6, Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 and Romanian Folk Dances. 

          Admission, payable at the door, is $5 for adults, $3 for school-age children and senior citizens, with a $10 family maximum when families arrive together. Admission is free for FCPS employees with work ID. Revenue from admission tickets supports this and other countywide musical events.  
            Watch for the Middle School All-County Music Festival coming the following week, Saturday, February 11, 7 p.m. also at Governor Thomas Johnson High School.
