Cold weather and the Holidays are right around the corner.  Once again this year, the Frederick County Department of Social Services is sponsoring the Holiday Gift Project to make the season special for some of our neighbors in need.

There are many seniors, families, and children who would not be able to celebrate the holidays without the assistance of their neighbors and community.  Last year over 255 children and families, as well as 59 seniors were able to enjoy the holidays thanks to generous donations from our donors and sponsors. Offices, groups, families, and individuals have volunteered in the past to help spread holiday joy by participating in this program.

A Visit with the Dalai Lama

In a recent blog, I wrote about a lecture I attended while the Dalai Lama was visiting the United States. He offered such insightful information that I’d like to share more with you regarding Life With the Dalai Lama.  Take it in and enjoy!

Here are several statements made by the Dalai Lama:

  • Open arms to change but don’t let go of your values.
  • Once a year, go someplace you’ve never been before.
  • Be gentle with the earth.
  • Learn the rules so you know how to break them properly
  • Remember the best relationship is one in which your love for each other exceeds your need for each other.
  • Judge your success by what you had to give up in order to get it.
  • Share the knowledge.  It’s a way to achieve immortality.
  • Live a good, honorable life.  Then when you get older and look back, you’ll be able to enjoy it a second time.
