Frederick Co. man accused of sharing explicit photos of toddler
News

BALTIMORE, Md. (WUSA9) -- A Frederick County man has been indicted on federal charges for allegedly sending sexually explicit photos of a two-year-old girl to about 25 other people through the popular messaging service Kik.

Federal prosecutors say William Steinhaus of Brunswick also sent more than 290 messages to three other people through Kik, some of them discussing how Steinhaus could sexually abuse the toddler.

Between December 8 and 9, 2014, Steinhaus had messaged people on Kik about their shared sexual interest in prepubescent children, according to an indictment. Using his iPhone or iPad, prosecutors say Steinhaus took pictures of a two-year-old girl engaged in sexually explicit conduct and sent them to about 25 other people through Kik.

During those three days, Steinhaus also sent about 290 messages to two other Kik users and about 419 messages to another user, according to the indictment. Some of those messages were additional pictures of the child engaged in sexual conduct. Other messages were about how Steinhaus would abuse the toddler, prosecutors say.

Steinhaus is in state custody after he was arrested on December 9, 2014, on related charges in Frederick County.

Steinhaus has been charged with two counts of sexual exploitation of a child and four counts of distributing pornography. He faces a maximum of 140 years in prison for the charges.
