Gaithersburg resident, Valerie Ross, has entered her southern style, hand-churned ice cream into Walmart’s “Get On The Shelf Program," a contest that discovers great products and small businesses. This program allows anyone up until April 4th to submit a product to be voted on by the public. The competition is tough with over 4,000 brands in the running. The top 10 products from the first round will go to the final round of voting, which takes place between April 11th and April 24th.
After being laid off in 2009, Ross created "BOSS Ice Cream" to pay for her daughter’s college tuition. This ice cream is based on a family recipe passed down through generations since the 1800’s.
This super premium ice cream produced in Gaithersburg “keeps it real,” as Ross says, with no preservatives or additives. It’s also an egg and gluten free product.
